At FORC, we believe in getting things done.
At FORC, we believe in getting things done. Every initiative we take on stems from a real need we’ve seen firsthand along the river. Powered entirely by volunteers, our team shows up year after year—ready to work, ready to protect, and ready to make a visible impact.
Here are just a few of the ways we’re showing up for the Coeur d’Alene River:
Keeping the River Clean
One of the biggest challenges along the river is waste left behind by campers, floaters, and visitors who often have no way to dispose of their trash.
That’s why, with the help of sponsors, we fund and maintain trash bag dispensers at popular sites, encouraging people to clean up after themselves. We also work hard to provide dumpsters throughout the summer months to give people a place to put their garbage — reducing litter, deterring illegal dumping, and keeping our waters clear.
Tackling Big Jobs
Each year, we host a Tire Clean-Up Day — removing dozens of old tires that have been dumped or washed into the river over time. These cleanups not only protect the water and
surrounding habitat, but also bring together volunteers of all ages who want to give back to the land they love.
In addition to tire removal, we organize Community Clean Up Days throughout the summer to clear out trash, old furniture, broken glass, and other debris left along the shoreline. These events are a great way for families, friends, and neighbors to take action and make a visible impact together.
Supporting River Access & Safety
Friends of the River Coalition also helps operate a summer river shuttle that makes it easier for floaters to enjoy the river safely and responsibly. By reducing the number of vehicles shuttling between launch and exit points, we help ease overcrowding at key access areas and cut down on roadside congestion.
We also help raise funds for Shoshone County Search and Rescue’s river safety efforts, including the purchase of special dive equipment used in water rescues. Supporting these teams means faster, safer responses when accidents happen — and adds a critical layer of safety to a river that’s as powerful as it is beautiful.
Investing in the Future
We believe in protecting the river long-term — not just for today, but for the generations that follow. That’s why we’ve launched a scholarship program for local students who plan to study environmental science, marine biology, or related fields.
By investing in these future stewards of our natural world, we hope to strengthen efforts to improve fish habitats, enhance water quality, and deepen understanding of the delicate ecosystems that call this river home.
